After a busy two day installation for Emma Hooton, it was time to take a break and head up to London Olympia for a wander around the House & Garden Festival last Friday. This isn’t a trade show like the others we attend throughout the year, it’s aimed at the general public, but it’s good to pop in and have a look at what consumers and clients are buying.
This year was very ‘classic country’ in style, with most stands and suppliers not really relevant to our style and aesthetic, but a couple of our favourites that we did love were these amazing organic goat hair rugs and runners, as well as some handwoven baskets and these stunning bronze sculptures from Patrick Elder, full sized and miniature.
After sampling (& purchasing) some wonderful English sparkling wine from Wiston, we chatted to a furniture designer from Jonathan Field who make the most elegant pieces of furniture and I particularly loved their ebonized English oak desk, which had really unusual legs.
After falling in love with several paintings that were stratospherically out of our price bracket, we stopped for a quick lunch before heading across to The London Stadium, for what was one of the best live gigs we’ve ever been to – The Foo Fighters. I have always been a fan of them but seeing them live just reaffirmed what amazingly talented musicians and entertaining performers they are. The guys looked like there were genuinely excited to be there and with an average age of 46 (Dave is 49..!) we were amazed at how hard they rocket it, for a good solid 2.5 hours! Friday night was definitely one of those historical ‘I was there’ moments, of which neither of us will ever forget.
